Jones, Andy

One of the first Oklahomans to get involved in freestyle motocross was Andy Jones, or “Backstreet,” as he is known among the competition.

“Basically, I raced amateur motocross and turned pro when I was 16 and started racing the arenacrosses,” says the Elk City Honda rider. “I would go to these races and I would start doing the halftime freestyle contests. I really enjoyed it because not only did you make more money, but you also got to entertain the crowds, and I really liked that.”

In 2002 Andy joined the IFMA series and immediately started to excel. After finishing 18th overall in the series that year, he moved up to finish sixth in 2003.

Unfortunately, Andy’s 2005 season didn’t go as planned, as a shoulder injury slowed his progress. He still managed to travel the world and was able to finish second in the European X Games.

For 2006, Andy’s first priority is to stay healthy. After that, he says, “I plan on training with Kenny Bartram, and I want to get top five in the X Games, Gravity Games, and the Dew Action Sports Tour.”
