A freestyle motocross rider from the southeastern state of North Carolina … that seems kind of unusual, doesn’t it? But it’s home to Jeff Winstead—better known to the freestyle community as “Trailer Trash”—who has become a fixture on the IFMA tour.
Jeff, who worked as a carpenter prior to freestyle, is coming off his first major accomplishment in his career, the 2005 IFMA ramp-to-ramp championship. And that’s very impressive, considering that he is only a few years into his career.
“I was racing motocross for a long time but suffered a pretty serious crash in Virginia a few years back,” says the Yamaha-mounted rider. “And then I found out about an amateur contest in Englishtown, New Jersey, at Raceway Park, and there was a scout there for jumpers. So that’s how it all ended up, and I got into freestyle. The rest is history.”
