Wilson Edges Romans in a thriller in Gamecock Country
The Colonial Center, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, was the site of another thrilling IFMA FMX. This event was presented by Toyota Tundra as a part of the Wendy's Motorsports Series. The night started off very ominous as there was a tornado sited less than 20 miles from the arena, but it didn't stop the high-flyin action inside. Geoff Aaron, Moto Trials rider extrodinaire, was on hand to demonstrate the meaning of, "balance and control". He rode over and onto several obstacles before bunny hopping the entire four man BMX Stunt Team of Hell on Wheels! Speaking of the Hell on Wheels, Danny Lockland aka "Big Daddy performed a new stunt in which he did a backflip and landed it only to jump on another bike mid stream and ride it out, much to amazement of the wanting crowd. It even impressed "Lucky Louie" the event Leprechaun who was on hand to give St. Patty's Day Greetings!
Brody Wilson, of Massachusetts, won the qualifier and he carried his momentum into the main event. He stayed focused on taking the title back from JJ Romans, by doing several aerials, including a Holy Rock Solid to Indy, and the sickest KOD, ever witnessed! JJ Romans had been in the Toyota Tundra Hotseat, and got there by busting three backflips and two with variations (a one hander and one footer. It was not enough to fend off the the young gun, Wilson. Derek Cook, of Oklahoma rounded out the podium when the dust had settled.
In the head to head competition, Romans got his due. He was paired with Brody Wilson and beat him the first run with a double grab indy. He was pitted in the final against Dan Newth and Derek Cook. Cook and Newth both went big, but Romans backflip won over the crowd who judged this event. The local police even got into the action three riders went on a rebel run with the Po Po in tow.
