The high-flyin, trick posse invaded the Mobile Civic Center in Alabama. During qualifying, Darin Connet, sponsored by Colorado Powersports pulled a backflip which gave him the top spot going into the main event. Joining Connet in the main event was “Mr. Nasty”, Slade Waltman, of Oklahoma and high-flyers Greg Hartman and Jason Rowe. Waltman went first and put on a good display, but had to settle for fourth. Rowe knocked Waltman off the hot seat, beating him by one-half a point. Hartman was next and did a great job of getting the crowd behind him, but the big winner was Colorado’s, Darin Connet. Connet toyed with the crowd saving a one-footed backfip for his finale, which won over the judges, edging out Hartman. Hartman and Rowe won the Team FMX competition.
The Hell on Wheels BMX Team did an awesome job along with the Fearless Flores Brothers in the, “Globe of Death”. There was a great crowd on hand and the Subway autograph session will be going on into the wee hours! Special thanks to the US Air Force ROTC for providing the colors tonight. We will be back tomorrow with more action. Here are the final results…
1. Darin Connet 92.0
2. Greg Hartman 90.0
3. Jason Rowe 88.5
4. Slade Waltman 88.0
5. Dog Cossey 84.0
6. Clint Esposito 82.5
7. Cody Cavanaugh 78.0
8. Dan Newth 77.5
9. Scott Hanlon 76

The second day for FMX in Mobile was a lot wilder than the first! Due to some condensation overnight the track crew had to work extra hard to prepare the event floor. They did an excellent job! The following four riders qualified for the main event, in this order…Darin Connet, Jason Rowe, Slade Waltman, and Greg Hartman. Before we go any further, let’s move to Team FMX (two riders). The first team out was Hartman and Rowe, halfway through the one minute clock, Greg Hartman had to hit the “eject” button because he slid up the takeoff ramp and his bike crashed into the landing ramp and he flew tumbling down the landing ramp. Good news is Greg was alright, bad news is his bike was trashed which took him out of the finals, however the winners of the Team competition were Clint Esposito, sponsored by Team FMX East and Dan Newth. Newth was also the alternate and went to the Finals in Hartman’s stead. The final was dominated by Darin Connet, who backflipped his way on top of the podium. Second place went to Slade Waltman, sponsored by Universal, and filling the podium was Jason Rowe of Chicago.
Thanks again to the Fearless Flores brothers and the Globe of Death, and Hell on Wheels BMX Team. We will be back next week with more FMX action…stay tuned!
