Saturday - 7:30 PM Wilson Edges Romans at FMX in Florida's Capitol
The Southern Ford Dealers FMX show in Tallahassee was held at the Leon County
Civic Center on February 9th and hosted several thousand spectators. In addition
to the iron-horsed gladiators of the IFMA, Moto-Trials kingpin, Geoff Aaron was
in attendance to amaze the crowd on hand by showing his total control of his Honda
Montessa. The Hell on Wheels BMX Stunt team was also in the area for a big show
in Daytona, at the 500, next weekend and put on a great exhibition, featuring
Auggie Simoncini, Corey Burglar, and Ruel Erickson. Also, a big shout out to Yuck
mouth of Tallahassee's rock station, Gulf 104fm.
During qualifying, Brian
Dowdy, of Piedmont, Oklahoma, was the first rider to break an 85 or higher from
the judges, and he did it with style, featuring a no-handed bar hop that netted
him an 89, in only his second show back. FMX East rider, Shawn Connors, hit an
85 and was the last rider to transfer. The top two qualifiers were JJ Romans,
who busted out a backflip and scored an 91.5, and, Brody Wilson, of Massachusetts,
had a very clean technical run, good enough for second in qualifying.
It was main event time, and the fans in Tallahassee were in for a treat! Dowdy,
tried to knock Connors off the Southern Ford Dealers Hot Seat, but was unable
after pulling a Supercross air, much to his dismay. Brody Wilson came out firing,
hitting an Oxecutioner, KOD Indy, and many other fully extended tricks good for
a 91.5 from the judges. Lastly, Romans took center stage and rock the house with
a couple of backflips to start, but had a missed trick, and that was all it took
for the judges to react, much to the crowd's dismay. JJ was a quarter point shy
of sitting atop the podium! Wilson also took the head to head competition! More
to come
