Saturday - 7:30
PM Things got off to a fast start in Milwaukee with the "Redneck"
Shawn Connors going to the max and scoring an 89.0. He looked to be in good shape
for the finals but came up one point short. Adam Cousino came out next but had
some difficulties in his run and could only manage an 85.0. Casey Higgins, who
took us thru FMX 101 in opening ceremonies, posted a respectable 88.0. Jason Rowe
was in next and he really went big looking to make the finals in front of huge
contingency of family and friends up from Chicago. Unfortunately he was only able
to post an 87.5 which would not be enough to get him a transfer spot into the
finals. James Carter was our final rider in the first set and he posted the score
to beat to get into the finals with a 90.0.
During our first break in
the action Phil Smagy thrilled the fans with an excellent display of trails riding.
He was a big hit and really set things up well for our second half of qualifiers. First
up in the second set was Derek Cook. The "Cookinator" wasted no time
hucking some huge air to put up a 90.5. Brody Wilson rolled out behind him and
immediately went inverted. Of course the crowd went nuts and he breezed in to
the finals with a 92.5. Jack Rowe fought thru his leg injury and qualified with
90.5. Our final rider was "The Lady's Choice" JJ Romans. JJ threw down
several back flip variations on his way to a 91.0.
After our intermission
the Urias Family came out to play in their Globe of Death. We called it the Wisconsin
cheese grater in honor of the Cheese State. They cheated death once again and
put on a flawless show.
Our finals kicked off with James Carter settling
in to the Milwaukee area Scion Dealers Hot Seat with a score of 90.0. Jack Rowe
came out big as the next rider but had his knee pop out on him during a back flip
superman. Derek Cook found a way to unseat Carter as he came in with a 90.5. JJ
Romans took the floor next and lit the crowd up on his way to a 91.0. Our final
rider of the night was Brody Wilson. Brody left no doubt he wanted the win. He
knocked off no less than 4 back flips on his way to a top score of 92.5.
It
was a great night in Milwaukee and we had a blast. We are looking forward to coming
back soon. Don't forget to check out my column, Wide Open, on Arenacross.com for
